It has been quite a bumpy ride for everyone associated with filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor’s forthcoming directorial Kedarnath. Starring Sushant Singh Rajput and newcomer Sara Ali Khan, the movie has been facing one issue after another ever since hitting the shooting floor in 2017. Initially, the film was being jointly produced by Abhishek Kapoor’s production house, Guy in the Sky Pictures, and Prernaa Arora’s KriArj Entertainment. However, halfway through the shoot, both the parties had massive fallout due to some monetary issues, which led Ronnie Screwvala of RSVP Movies to take over the film from KriArj Entertainment.
After RSVP Movies came onboard to co-produce the film, it was announced that Kedarnath would enter cinemas on November 30. However, the latest we hear that the much-awaited film will now arrive in cinemas in March 2019, which means the Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba, which is scheduled to roll into cinemas on 27th December 2018, will now mark the acting debut of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter Sara Ali Khan.
“With Ronnie’s Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam starrer, Uri: The Surgical Strike, slated to release in January, and Abhishek Chaubey’s dacoit drama, Sonchiraiya, also with Sushant, to open in February, Kedarnath has been pushed to March. However, the makers are yet to zero in on a specific date,” a source close to the development lets on.
Though the makers are yet to decide on any date for the theatrical release of Kedarnath, if it really hits the silver screen in March, it will face competition from a slew of films scheduled to hit the marquee in the month of Holi. The Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer period drama Kesari, based on the Battle of Saragarhi, also releases in the same month. John Abraham’s spy thriller Romeo Akbar Walter and the Sujoy Ghosh-directed revenge drama, Badla, are also scheduled for their theatrical bow in March 2019.
