There is a long list of films which have hit the roadblock because of the ongoing #MeToo movement in Bollywood. Of all the projects which have faced the heat, Bhushan Kumar’s Mogul remains the biggest one. Mogul is a biopic on Kumar’s father and music baron Gulshan Kumar who laid the foundation of India’s biggest music company T-Series. Bhushan first wanted to make the biopic with Akshay Kumar. However, the superstar walked out of the movie citing creative differences with the makers. The movie found itself in troubled waters again when director Subhash Kapoor was accused of sexual harassment by a woman. This led to Aamir Khan, co-producer of the movie, exiting from the project. Soon Subhash Kapoor was ousted from the film. As per fresh reports, the makers who are yet to sign a new director to direct the project have zeroed in on Sonakshi Sinha to play one of the female leads in the biopic.
“Sonakshi Sinha has been approached for it. The film dates back to the 70s and 80s and the team was looking for a heroine, who could exude that retro vibe. It’s a small, but meaningful role. Sona will only need to shoot for a few days. When she heard the script, she liked it and told Bhushan that she would do it. But the modalities still need to be worked out,” a close source reveals to an English daily.
Though nothing much is known about the character Sonakshi has been approached to play, some industry insiders reveal the actress will be seen as one of Kumar’s girlfriends. The movie will have three female characters but the role which Sonakshi essays are a pivotal one. We also hear that just like Ranbir Kapoor’s blockbuster film Sanju (2018), Mogul will also feature many cameos by A-list Bollywood actors.
Mogul is expected to begin production at the end of the year. The film is scheduled to hit screens on Christmas 2019.
