Last seen in the Nandita Das-directed period drama Manto (2018), Nawazuddin Siddiqui has agreed to do a new film. According to reports, the award-winning actor has signed a project, titled Raat Akeli Hai. The movie will mark the directorial debut of well-known casting director Honey Trehan. Honey has previously assisted Vishal Bhardwaj on a number of films. Talking about the female lead opposite Nawaz, we hear that Radhika Apte has been finalized to take up the role.
Raat Akeli Hai will mark the third silver screen collaboration between Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte. The duo has previously worked on such successful films Badlapur (2015) and Manjhi – The Mountain Man (2015). Talking about Raat Akeli Hai and how the makers decided on roping in Radhika for the role, a source close to the development said, “It’s a love story set in the heartland of India. Honey was on the lookout for his leading lady for a while now and thought Radhika fit the part to the T. Radhika and Honey have known each other for many years, while Nawaz and Radhika get along well, too. She loved the script and instantly gave her nod to the project. The team is set to start shooting in January”.
For the uninitiated, Honey Tehran was earlier set to make his debut as a filmmaker with Vishal Bhardwaj’s untitled film which had Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. The movie was based on Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. However, due to some creative differences, Vishal decided to helm the project. But unfortunately, the venture failed to take off on time because Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with a serious ailment just a few weeks ahead of the first shooting schedule of the film. It is supposed to go on floors once Irrfan is well enough to resume work.
