After the theatrical release of Dhadak (2018), a film which marked the acting debut of veteran actress Sridevi’s elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor alongside Ishaan Khatter, director Shashank Khaitan was set to helm a war drama, titled Rannbhoomi with his favourite Varun Dhawan. But from what we hear now, there is a slight change in the plan. Khaitan will first helm an untitled action thriller before starting work on Rannbhoomi.
If a source close to the development is to be believed, the film is currently in the scripting stage. The makers are planning to roll the camera by May next year. The source also adds that before Shashank begins the casting process, he will narrate the script to Dharma Productions’ head Karan Johar. “Shashank will give Karan (Johar, producer) a narration before beginning work on casting.”
Talking about Rannbhoomi, which was announced with much fanfare in February this year, it will now begin production only after Shashank wraps up this new untitled project. Rannbhoomi was scheduled for Diwali 2020 release, but looking at how the project has been put on the backburner for the time being, we highly doubt it will be able to hit the marquee on its scheduled date.
“Rannbhoomi is a warrior film, which showcases love, relationships, sacrifices, revenge, and heroism. I began developing it in December 2015 and shared the idea with Varun, who was excited about it. Now, Karan has given us the wings to fly and we are looking forward to turning this dream into a reality,” Shashank had said after the formal announcement of the movie.
