Shahid Kapoor reveals why he agreed to topline ‘Arjun Reddy’ remake

After the dismal performance of his last release Batti Gul Meter Chalu (2018), Shahid Kapoor has all his hopes pinned on his next film, which is going to be an official Hindi remake of Telugu blockbuster, Arjun Reddy (2018). The actor has done a lot of preparations to get into the skin of his character. If the remake comes anywhere close to the original film, Kapoor can expect a solo hit in his kitty.

Recently, when the Padmaavat (2018) star was asked about the reason why he agreed to do the project, he said, “I wanted to try this part and see what I can do with this. I was curious enough to take it on and excited enough to not let it go.”

He went on to add, “I usually don’t watch too many films in Telugu and it surprised me with its tonality, rawness, simplicity and the fact that it was so real and believable. The character is very fascinating for me as an actor because of the emotional arc… is very original. I loved it and Vijay Deverakonda, who played Arjun, did it so well”.

The Arjun Reddy remake stars Kiara Advani alongside Shahid Kapoor. Earlier, newcomer Tara Sutaria was finalized for the lead role, but she opted out of it due to her contract with Dharma Productions, the banner which is launching her with the hotly anticipated Student Of The Year 2, alongside Tiger Shroff and Ananya Pandey.

The remake will be helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who also directed the original film in Telugu. Before Hindi, the movie has been remade in Tamil with the title Verma. The Hindi remake is expected to hit the shooting floor in November this year. It will be produced by T-Series Films and is slated to hit the silver screen on 21 June 2019.
