Amidst a burning controversy caused by actress Tanushree Dutta who accused him of sexual misconduct on a film’s set, Nana Patekar has bagged a meaty role. According to reports, the seasoned actor has been roped in to play India’s first Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief, Rameshwarnath Kao, in an upcoming television series. To be bankrolled by well-known producer Firoz Nadiadwala, the yet-to-be-titled series is expected to hit the shooting floor in the month of November.
For the uninitiated, Kao, who served RAW from its founding in 1969 to 1977, was a spymaster and also held the position of secretary (Research) in the Cabinet Secretariat of the Government of India. He was also the personal security chief and security adviser to India’s former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi.
Talking about the plot of the series, we hear it will be based on RAW’s first mission, which it launched to liberate East Pakistan and pave the way for the creation of a new country, Bangladesh.
Confirming the development, associate producer Arjun Kumar said, “A lot of our audience today is watching American shows. The only way to change the game and get them back is to produce quality content. We have been making films on a large canvas and want to do the same for TV now. Nana is the right choice for the part because like RAW he does a lot of good work quietly. It’s thanks to these secret agents that our country is safe. We are bringing a lot of other known faces on board.”
Meanwhile, Nana Patekar is in Rajasthan, shooting for his forthcoming film Housefull 4. Helmed by Sajid Khan, the comic-caper is the fourth instalment of the highly popular Hindi film franchise, Housefull (2010). The latest part also stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Kriti Kharbanda and Kriti Sanon.
