Rani Mukerji’s comeback film Hichki (2018), which went on to garner a lot of critical acclaim and appreciation from all corners, is now set to entertain the audience in our neighbouring country, China. Yes, the film is gearing up for a grand premiere in China with a new title, Teacher With Hiccup. The Siddharth P Malhotra directorial will be entering Chinese theatres on October 12, 2018.
Before hitting screens in the neighbouring country, Hichki has enjoyed a successful run in India, Kazakhstan and Russia. Talking about her film’s release in China, protagonist Rani Mukerji said, “It’s truly amazing when films can cross over to different cultures and languages because of its universal story. Hichki is a reflection of society, a reflection of how we all have weaknesses and we need to overcome them to make the world a better place. Social dramas find a connect with audiences in China and I am hopeful that my film will resonate with everyone, especially the teachers, students and parents.”
Made on a tight budget, Hichki went on to do fantabulous business upon its domestic release earlier this year. It opened its account with Rs. 3.30 crore and closed out its lifetime business at an impressive figure of Rs. 46.21 crore, thus becoming one of the most profitable feature ventures of the year.
Before Hichki, many Bollywood films have shown their might in China. Of all the Hindi films which have hit Chinese theatres so far, Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots (2009), Dangal (2016) andSecret Superstar (2017) remain some of the most successful and revenue generating films there. While there is no doubt that Khan is the biggest box-office draw when it comes to the business of Hindi films in China, we wish many more Bollywood actors succeed in leaving a mark there.
