Veteran filmmaker and screenwriter Mahesh Bhatt, who has given us a series of blockbuster films in the 90s, is all set to make a comeback to direction after a huge gap of almost two decades. Bhatt announced a remake to his 1991 hit film Sadak, the story of a taxi driver who is trying to rescue the girl he loves from a brothel, earlier today on his 70th birthday. While Sadak starred Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles, Sadak 2 will be headlined by Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt.
Sadak 2 will make its entry into cinemas in 2020, almost 29 years after the first film hit the silver screen. While Mahesh Bhatt has directed his elder daughter Pooja Bhatt is many successful films, he will direct younger daughter Alia Bhatt for the first time.
Talking about making a comeback to films, Mahesh Bhatt said in a statement, “Like the spider gets its thread from his own guts, the narrative of Sadak 2 is pulled out from my lived life. It’s a film about living, loving and dealing with the anguish of the loss of a loved one.”
Alia Bhatt took to Instagram and posted an emotional message, “Dear Daddy, On your 70th Birthday, you have given me the greatest present I could ask and dream for. You are directing me! Sadak 2 is a dream come true. What I thought will never be possible you have made possible. Thank you, daddy, from the bottom of my heart, soul and bones. This will be a journey of discovery. Of life, movies, feeling and most of all. Of a father and daughter. I love you, my not-so-old man! Happy Birthday ”
The film is expected to start rolling later this year.
