It’s not been long when Bollywood was buzzing with the news that Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan was keen to make a film on Mahabharata, the great Indian epic. Apart from playing one of the key characters, Khan also wanted to co-produce it. Reports were also floating around that business tycoon Mukesh Ambani was also interested in investing in its production. However, Khan got busy with his upcoming film Thugs Of Hindostan and buzz around the ambitious project died down slowly and slowly.
The latest we hear that Aamir Khan has decided against making the film or a web-series, for that matter, on the epic. There are various reasons which led the superstar to arrive at this conclusion, one of them being the massive cost of production. “After weighing the pros and cons, Aamir has decided not to make a movie or series. For one, it would become controversial. But more importantly, the scale at which the project was being planned was not commercially viable. He would have to set aside five years for the project, which would mean losing out on at least three films. So there’s going to be no Mahabharata.”
Aamir is currently busy completing his immediate release Thugs Of Hindostan, which has created quite a buzz for itself ever since being announced in 2017. Besides Khan, the Yash Raj Films-produced heist drama also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Fatima Sana Sheikh and Katrina Kaif in principal roles. Helmed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the movie is slated to roll into cinemas on 8th November 2018. Some reports suggest that after the release of Thugs Of Hindostan, Aamir might remake a hit Hollywood film as his next project. There has been no official word on the same, though.
