If you remember, filmmaker Shree Narayan Singh, who is gearing up for the release of his next film Batti Gul Meter Chalu, had announced a couple of months ago that he would produce a film called Jasmine which will mark the directorial debut of the renowned writer duo Siddharth and Garima. He was expected to commence work on the project right after wrapping up Batti Gul Meter Chalu. However, when the filmmaker was asked about the progress on the project in one of his recent interviews, he said that it would not be made in near future. But when Garima Wahal was contacted, she suggested otherwise. The writer refuted the rumours that the project is not happening anytime soon.
Jasmine is based on a surrogate mother and her bond with her child. When the project was announced, it was rumoured that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan might play the female lead in it. However, Singh had reportedly said, “things were going downhill from the start” as far as the project was concerned.
In her recent interaction with a tabloid, Garima said, “No official contract or agreement for Jasmine has been drafted with anyone. So, no one can announce that the film has been shelved. The film is definitely happening.” The writer also added that since Shree Narayan Singh is busy with his own ventures, they have approached a top production house to bankroll the project.
Sidharth and Garima have also written Singh’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Wahal said that the setback did not affect their equation with the filmmaker. “We had told him that we will (create)Jasmine ourselves and that he need not worry. Shree sir was excited about this story. He would have liked to produce it. But, this is the right time to tell this story independently.”
Batti Gul Meter Chalu releases on 21st September.
