Janhvi Kapoor, the elder daughter of late veteran actress Sridevi and filmmaker Boney Kapoor, made her acting debut with Dharma Productions’ honour-killing drama ‘Dhadak’ (2018), which was an official remake of Marathi language movie ‘Sairat’ (2016). Helmed by ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ (2014) and ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ (2017) fame director Shashank Khaitan, the movie performed really well at the box-office, incurring heavy profits for all the stakeholders involved. Debutante Janhvi Kapoor also received praises from all corners for her stirring performance. Karan Johar, who produced ‘Dhadak’ in association with Zee Studios, was so impressed with the newcomer that he signed her on for his next directorial venture ‘Takht’, which is a Mogul era based magnum opus also starring Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Vicky Kaushal and Anil Kapoor.
The latest we hear that Janhvi has been signed on for yet another exciting project. Interestingly, this new film will also be bankrolled by Dharma Productions. As per reports, Janhvi is in talks to play the role of the first woman IAF Chopper Pilot Gunjan Saxena in her biopic. We first heard about this project last year when several media outlets reported about Dharma Productions wanting to make a film on Gunjan Saxena’s life.
For the uninitiated, Gunjan Saxena is the first woman to fly a chopper, who went all guns blazing into the heart of the war zone of Kargil in 1999 and evacuated injured soldiers from there. Gunjan and fellow lieutenant Srividya Rajan, braving fires of the Pakistani army, flew in and out of the danger zone in North Kashmir and managed to bring our soldiers home.
Further details of the film are being kept under the wraps. But from what we hear, Janhvi has started preparing for her role. She even met Gunjan to know more about her struggle. We are now waiting for an official announcement.
