A couple of days ago, there were reports that Irrfan Khan might make his return to Bollywood, post his cancer treatment in London, with Dinesh Vijan and Bhushan Kumar’s joint venture ‘Hindi Medium 2’, a sequel to the hit 2017 movie ‘Hindi Medium’, starring Khan and Pakistani actress Saba Qamar in lead roles. However, the latest we hear that Khan has signed filmmaker Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming directorial venture, which will be a biopic on Udham Singh, the long-forgotten martyr of India.
Reportedly, Irrfan Khan had agreed to headline the project even before the actor was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in March. However, the project was put on hold due to his illness. The actor has since been undergoing treatment in London and is recovering fast. Once his treatment is over, he will return home and resume work. After recuperating properly, he will first start shooting for Sircar’s Udham Singh biopic.
A source goes on to say that Irrfan will first start shooting for the Udham Singh biopic with Shoojit Sircar before allocating dates to other projects. “He has really liked Shoojit’s script and is in regular touch with him. They are looking forward to reuniting after the successful Piku,” added the source.
When Shoojit was contacted for a confirmation on the same, he said, “I think now the focus is that the entire film fraternity is waiting for him to come back and restart. Irrfan is one of our finest artists and I want him to come back fully recovered and relive all his dreams. Meanwhile, I am completely ready with my prep for the film.”
Before heading off to London for his treatment, Irrfan was about to begin the shooting of Vishal Bhardwaj’s next, also starring Deepika Padukone. The project could be revived once again after he returns home.
