Released in 2005, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ is one such film which is still etched in our memories for various reasons. First, it boasted of some impeccable performances by Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan. Second, it brought together Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai together for the first time in a song, before Aish became the Bachchan bahu. Now, after more than a decade of its release, reports are swirling around that the producers are planning to roll out a sequel to the much-loved film with Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji.
A source close to the development reveals that Aditya Chopra, the Yash Raj Films head honcho, is quite kicked about the sequel and he himself is looking into it. The source also adds that unlike ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, its sequel will not be directed by Shaad Ali. “‘Bunty Aur Babli’ sequel has been on cards for quite some time now. But it was only recently that the things were taken forward. Aditya Chopra himself is looking into this and the pre-production work has already started. Both Rani and Abhishek are more than keen to do this project and have given their nod for it. However, it won’t be directed by Shaad. Who is helming this sequel is still not revealed. But the plot has been finalised and the shooting schedule is being planned. If everything works out well, then the movie will tentatively go on-floors in November, this year”.
However, when YRF was contacted to get a confirmation on these reports, the production house released a statement, saying, “‘Bunty Aur Babli is one of Aditya Chopra’s favourite YRF film and he has always wanted to make a sequel to the much-loved movie. However, currently, there is no locked script or locked cast for the same”.
