National Film Award-winning actress Vidya Balan, who was last seen in ‘Tumhari Sulu’ (2017), is all set to play the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In her recent interview with a popular tabloid, the actress confirmed to have signed an upcoming digital series based on Sagarika Ghose’s book popular book, Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister.
Initially, there were reports that the makers were unable to decide whether they should adapt the book in a film form or a web-series. But Balan confirmed that due to the excessive amount of text, the makers have decided to develop a digital series based on the book. “There is too much material for it be made into a film. So, we decided to turn it into a web series. We don’t know how many seasons we will be allotting to it. We are in the process of putting together a team,” said the actress.
Ronnie Screwvala will bankroll the project under his production banner, RSVP. The makers are still busy finalizing the right talent for the series. Once done, the team will begin production.
We have seen it more often than not that when a creative work is based on an eminent personality and his life, the family of the concerned person has some or the other issue with the material. When asked whether the makers are planning to take official permission from the Gandhi family before they commence work on the project, Balan said that since the series is based on a book whose rights have already been purchased by the makers, the team will not be seeking approval by anyone.
Apart from the forthcoming digital series, Vidya Balan will also be seen in the hotly anticipated NTR biopic.
