Recently, Bollywood was buzzing with the news that John Abraham might star in a sequel to filmmaker John Matthew Matthan’s iconic action entertainer ‘Sarfarosh’ which released in 1999. Starring Aamir Khan in the lead role, the movie won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and has gained cult status over the years. Now, John has himself confirmed that reports about his starring in ‘Sarfarosh 2’ are not baseless as he is indeed starring in the sequel.
Apart from playing the male lead in ‘Sarfarosh 2’, John will also co-produce the movie with director John Mathew Matthan. The makers are planning to roll the film next year. “John Mathew Matthan and I are co-producing the film. We are still working on the script but yes it’s happening with me. We plan to go on floors next year. He is probably the only director whose house I went to after seeing ‘Sarfarosh’ and said ‘Man what a film’,” said Abraham in a recent interview with a news agency.
When the ‘Dhoom’ (2004) star was asked if there is going to be any pressure on him to live up to the original film, he said, “I’m in fact very excited. I love Aamir Khan, I’m his big fan. It’s a challenge but it’s a different character, different story but the ethos is the same. It’s going to be very exciting”.
Meanwhile, John is busy promoting his upcoming film ‘Satyamev Jayate’, co-starring Manoj Bajpayee and debutante Aisha Sharma. Helmed by Milap Zaveri, the movie is produced by Emmay Entertainment and T-Series Films. It releases on 15th August. His next projects are ‘Batla House’, RAW: Romeo Akbar Walter’, and ‘Action’.
