Well-known Hindi filmmaker Prakash Jha, whose movie credits include such brilliant films as ‘Mrityudand’ (1997), ‘Gangaajal’ (2003), ‘Apaharan’ (2005), Raajneeti’ (2010), ‘Aarakshan’ (2011) and ‘Satyagrah’ (2013), is set to make a movie on renowned Indian mathematician Dr Vashishtha Narayan Singh. The eminent mathematician, who hails from Basantpur, Bhojpur District, Bihar, worked at NASA before returning to India to teach at IIT Kanpur, followed by TIFR, Mumbai. He is known for challenging Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity. In spite of having such great talent and an illustrious career, Singh is spending his life in poverty without any attention from government. He suffered schizophrenia after marriage, which led to separation from wife.
Confirming the project, Jha, who last directed ‘Jai Gangaajal’ (2016) starring Priyanka Chopra in the lead role, said, “Dr Vashishtha Narayan Singh, the brilliant mathematician from Bihar, is our national treasure. His life is so inspiring and I would love to direct a biopic on him.”
Producer Vinay Singh is also excited to work on such an important story. He calls it a story of “tremendous highs and lows”. “I have been reading about and tracking the life of Vashishtha Narayan Singh since many years. His is a story of tremendous highs and lows and now we are all set to produce a film on him. I couldn’t be happier.”
The makers are currently looking at starting the casting process for the movie. Jha is known for collaborating with superstar Ajay Devgn quite frequently. So, will he sign the national award-winning actor for his next project as well? Only time will tell. The yet-to-be-titled film is expected to roll by the year-end.
