Superstar Aamir Khan’s production banner, Aamir Khan Productions, has joined forces with T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar for a biopic on the latter’s slain father and music baron Gulshan Kumar. Talks for this collaboration were swirling around for months. However, now both the production houses have officially locked the deal. To be helmed by noted filmmaker Subhash Kapoor of ‘Jolly LLB 2’ (2017) fame, the biopic is said to be titled ‘Mogul’ and is scheduled to make its entry into cinemas on Christmas 2019.
Well-known movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh also confirmed the news on his Twitter handle. He wrote, “Aamir Khan Productions and T-Series to release Gulshan Kumar biopic in Christmas 2019… Written and directed by Subhash Kapoor… Filming to begin early next year.”
When the Gulshan Kumar biopic was announced by T-Series in 2017, superstar Akshay Kumar was expected to play the title role in it. However, over the period of time, some creative differences between the actor and makers grew so big that the Kumar, reportedly, put down his papers and walked out of the project at the last moment, which eventually led to its delay in production. After Akshay opted out, reports started doing the rounds that Aamir Khan would replace him to play Gulshan Kumar in the biopic, but later it turned out that he is coming onboard only as a co-producer. The big question still remains the same that who will play the male lead in the movie. According to reports, the makers may announce the star cast in the coming few weeks.
Meanwhile, Aamir is currently shooting for his big-ticket movie, ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’. Helmed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Yash Raj Films, the heist drama also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Sana Fatima Shaikh. It is slated to hit screens during Diwali this year.
