The Aamir Khan starrer biographical sports drama ‘Dangal’ was the most successful movie of the year 2016. Also starring Sakshi Tanwar, Zaira Wasim, Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh in important roles, the film walked away with a lot of critical acclaim. As hasbeen a popular trend in Bollywood that whenever a film strikes gold at the box-office, the makers start pondering over the possibility of a sequel, the same seems to be happening with ‘Dangal’ also, according to reports. If the latest reports are anything to go by, the makers of the all-time blockbuster movie are planning a sequel focusing on Geeta Phogat’s life.
Talking about the same, a trade expect reveals, “The makers of ‘Dangal’ are considering making a sequel to the film, because it is a story that can be told again, and because it’s based on real people who are still living their lives. A sequel is being made to the MS Dhoni biopic as well because the first part ended with India winning the 2011 world cup, but his career has proceeded beyond that. Similarly, there could also be a sequel to ‘Sanju’. So, there is nothing wrong with the makers wanting to trace Geeta Phogat’s career beyond ‘Dangal.”
While the younger version of Geeta Phogat was played by Zaira Wasim, Fatima Sana Shaikh essayed the role of grown-up Phogat. If things fall into place, Shaikh might return to play the part once again. Well, it will be interesting to see if Aamir Khan, who played the male lead in the original, makes an appearance in its sequel or not.
Meanwhile, Fatima Sana Shaikh will next be seen in Vijay Krishna Acharya’s ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’, co-starring Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif.
