National Award-winning actor Ajay Devgn, who recently impressed the audience with his power-packed performance in Raj Kumar Gupta’s ‘Raid’ (2018), has announced a new film. The actor is joining forces with renowned filmmaker Neeraj Pandey to essay the role of 4th century BC scholar, advisor, economist and political strategist Chanakya in the period movie. The big-ticket project will be bankrolled by Plan C Studios, a joint venture of Friday Filmworks and Reliance Entertainment.

Earlier today, Ajay took to his Twitter handle and made the official announcement regarding the film. “Looking forward to playing #Chanakya, a film about one of the greatest thinkers in Indian History, directed by @neerajpofficial @RelianceEnt @FFW_Official @PlanC_Studios @ShitalBhatiaFFW,” he wrote.

Devgn, whose filmography boasts of some brilliant movies, will work with Neeraj Pandey for the first time. Pandey, who broke onto the scene with his 2008 release ‘A Wednesday’, has established himself as one of the most prolific storytellers over the years. He has been working towards bringing Chanakya’s life on celluloid for some time now. “I have been developing this film on Chanakya for some time now. It is an exciting work of passion for me, and I am sure audiences will love Ajay’s portrayal of the visionary genius,” said the director in a press release.

Ajay added, “I am truly looking forward to playing Chanakya. I have observed Neeraj Pandey’s work closely and I know Neeraj will tell this story with the clarity and passion that it needs to be told.”

Chanakya, also known as Vishnugupta and Kautilya, was an advisor to Emperor Chandragupta and played a pivotal role in establishing the Maurya dynasty. He also authored popular books like Chanakya Niti and Arthashatra.

Meanwhile, Ajay is busy with the shooting of Indra Kumar’s ‘Total Dhamaal’.
