Ranbir Kapoor is on cloud nine these days. And why should he not be? After all, his latest release ‘Sanju’ has smashed hundreds of box-office records ever since hitting theatres on 29th June. After gaining access to the coveted ₹ 200 crore club within one week of its release, the Rajkumar Hirani directorial now eyes ₹ 300 crore club. The way ‘Sanju’ is trending at the cash counter, it should not come as a surprise if it manages to burst into ₹ 300 crore club by the end of the second week.
The Kapoor lad is currently shooting for his next film ‘Brahmastra’ wherein he teams up with the mass-favourite Alia Bhatt for the first time. Also starring Amitabh Bachchan and Mouni Roy, the movie is being helmed by Ayan Mukerji, whose credits include ‘Wake Up Sid! (2009) and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (2013). ‘Brahmastra’ makes its entry into theatres in 2019.
Right after wrapping up ‘Brahmastra’, Ranbir will start work on ‘Shamshera’, a Yash Raj Films’ project which was announced a couple of months ago. Besides Kapoor, the Karan Malhotra directorial also stars Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles. The actor will be seen in a never-seen-before avatar in the movie. He plays a dacoit in the film. The makers are tight-lipped about the characters lead actors play in the movie. However, when Ranbir was recently asked about his role in the movie, he did spill some beans. “It’s definitely a very aggressive, intense and angry character. It is set in the 1800s and it’s about a dacoit tribe who is fighting for their rights and independence.”
After playing Sanjay Dutt in his biopic ‘Sanju’, Ranbir will now share the screen space with the superstar. “It is an exciting space and Sanjay is playing an antagonist. Also, it is a new collaboration for me with Karan Malhotra. I am really looking forward to starting this project,” concluded the ‘Rockstar’ (2011) actor.
