Rajkumar Hirani’s latest directorial offering ‘Sanju’ has done the unthinkable. Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the role of cinestar Sanjay Dutt, the movie hit the box-office like a hurricane and has been performing beyond expectations ever since its release on 29th June, 2018. After opening its account with ₹ 34.75 crores, the film continued adding a handsome amount of moolah to its account right through the weekdays and now the Rajkumar Hirani directorial has joined the much-publicised ₹ 200 crore club within 7 days of its release. It’s indeed a big feat for actor Ranbir Kapoor whose last few films did not fare well at the ticket window. After adding Thursday’s earning to its income, ‘Sanju’ now stands tall with a humongous collection of ₹ 202.51 crores.
Well-known movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the latest numbers of the film on his Twitter handle, “#Sanju is 200 NOT OUT… Has an EXTRAORDINARY Week 1… Crosses *lifetime biz* of #3Idiots [₹ 202.47 cr] in 7 days… Fri 34.75 cr, Sat 38.60 cr, Sun 46.71 cr, Mon 25.35 cr, Tue 22.10 cr, Wed 18.90 cr, Thu 16.10 cr. Total: ₹ 202.51 cr. India biz,” read his tweet.
With such impressive collections, ‘Sanju’ has become the first non-holiday Bollywood release to have garnered so much moolah for the makers. Since no Hindi film is releasing this week, it has one full week to add more money to its account till Sony Pictures Networks’ much-awaited sports biopic ‘Soorma’ arrives in cinemas on 13th July. After crossing the ₹ 200 crore mark in 7 days, ‘Sanju’ will now aim to breach past the ₹ 300 crore club. So, it will be interesting to see how many days the movie takes to pull in ₹ 300 crores at the box-office.
