Filmmaker Kabir Khan’s much awaited film ‘83’, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, has booked a new date for its theatrical release. Earlier, the movie was scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 30th August, 2019. But now it will release on April 10, 2020. The official Twitter account of the film on Thursday shared the new release date of the movie, writing, “Relive the historic glory when 15 minions from India ruled over the mammoths of world cricket. Film releases on April 10, 2020.”
Well, it’s not the first time when the makers of the big-ticket sports film have postponed its release. ‘83’ was announced in 2017. At the time of its announcement, April 5, 2019 was locked for its worldwide release. But since the project could not take off on time due to various reasons, the release date of the movie was deferred to 30th August, 2019. The movie is yet to hit the shooting floor and hence, the makers have pushed it again. Now it will release on 10th April, 2020, almost two years later.
For the uninitiated, ‘83’ is based on the iconic victory of Indian Cricket team in the final of 1983 Cricket World Cup against West Indies at Lords in the UK. Kapil Dev was the captain of the winning team. Ranveer will be seen playing Dev in the movie. Buzz also has it that talented actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is in talks with the makers for the role of winning team’s coach in the movie.
Right after signing the film on the dotted line, Ranveer had told, “‘83’ is an “incredible underdog story. It’s an honour to be a part of one of the most incredible sporting stories of our nation’s history, the 1983 Cricket World Cup. We have the honour of telling this story and mortalising this on celluloid.”
Currently, Ranveer is shooting for Rohit Shetty’s ‘Simmba’, which features newcomer Sara Ali Khan as the female lead. He will next be seen in Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Gully Boy’. Co-starring Alia Bhatt, the movie releases on 14th Feb, 2019.
