Filmmaker Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor have been friends for ages now, but the duo has never collaborated on a film project before. But if the latest buzz in trade is to be believed, Dharma Productions’ head is set to come onboard to co-produce Balaji Motion Pictures’ much-awaited ‘Ek Villain 2’, a sequel to the successful 2014 outing ‘Ek Villain’, which was a massive success at the box-office. While the original film starred Sidharth Malhotra alongside Shraddha Kapoor as the lead cast, the sequel will have Malhotra for sure while the search for the female lead is still on.
Reportedly, Karan and Ekta wanted to collaborate on a project for some time now. They have been active in movies for close to two decades now, but there has never been any collaboration between their banners. So, when they heard the idea of ‘Ek Villain 2’, they found it to be interesting enough to join forces for the first time. The film will be directed by Mohit Suri, who also helmed ‘Ek Villain’. The project is currently in the initial script stage.
At present, Karan Johar is busy with over a dozen projects. His next ‘Dhadak’ is right around the corner for release. His next offerings include ‘Drive’, ‘Student Of The Year 2’, ‘Kesari’, ‘Kalank’, ‘Brahmastra’, ‘Rannbhoomi’ and Vikram Batra biopic with Sidharth Malhotra. As for Ekta Kapoor, her latest release ‘Veere Di Wedding’ (2018) has turned out to be one of the most successful films of 2018. Her next ‘Mental Hai Kya’ is currently being shot in London with Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao. Some of her other upcoming projects include ‘Laila Majnu’, ‘Shotgun Shaadi’, ‘Kurein’ and untitled films with Alankrita Shrivastava and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.
