Going much beyond what many had expected it to pull in, Ranbir Kapoor’s latest film ‘Sanju’ has done a fantabulous business on its opening day. The movie, which hit the marquee on 29th June, 2018, across approximately 5000 screens in India, racked up a humongous Rs. 34.75 crores on day 1, becoming the highest Bollywood opener of the year 2018. ‘Sanju’ has left behind the likes of ‘Race 3’ (Rs. 29.17 crores), ‘Baaghi 2’ (Rs. 25.10 crores) and ‘Padmaavat’ (Rs. 19 crores) to emerge as the highest grossing film of the year.
‘Sanju’ is the biggest opener for Ranbir as well, who has been in the industry for 11 years now. His last highest opener ‘Besharam’ (2013) had minted Rs. 21.56 crores on its opening day. But despite such fabulous opening, the move turned out to be the biggest dud of Ranbir’s career. Not just Ranbir, director Rajkumar Hirani has also seen in the biggest opener of his career in the form of ‘Sanju’.
The film, as we all know, is based on the life of actor Sanjay Dutt. Besides Ranbir Kapoor and Rajkumar Hirani, Dutt has his own fan following which has helped the film to post such magnificent numbers at the cash counter. If the trend continues, ‘Sanju’ is set for a mammoth weekend. It will easily cross the coveted Rs. 100 crore mark within three days of its theatrical release. The film is expected to bring Ranbir Kapoor back in the reckoning as many of his much-hyped films in the past failed to live up to the expectations of the audience. Its success will give a new direction to his career.
Apart from Ranbir, ‘Sanju’ also stars Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Jim Sarbh, Karishma Tanna, and Vicky Kaushal. The movie is produced by Rajkumar Hirani Films and Vinod Chopra Films, and presented by Fox Star Studios.
