While actors never shy away from increasing their remuneration if their last project was a hit at the box-office, Priyanka Chopra is treading where no one has tread before. The actress, who became an international sensation after starring in three back-to-back seasons of American TV series ‘Quantico’, is making her comeback to Bollywood with filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar’s film ‘Bharat’. The movie stars superstar Salman Khan opposite her. Of late, there have been numerous reports on the amount PC is charging for the movie. Some reports even said that the actress is getting Rs 12 crore for doing the film. However, if latest reports are to be believed, Chopra is not charging anything for the film.
“She has generously offered to do the film for free as it is being directed by her friend Ali Abbas Zafar. As far as reports of her being paid Rs 12 crore are concerned, they may be attempts at one-upping Deepika Padukone, whose marketing team, since the release of ‘Padmaavat’ (2018), has been claiming that she is the highest paid actress in Bollywood. The truth is, even Deepika isn’t getting that kind of money after ‘Padmaavat’,” a source reveals to a daily.
Chopra and Zafar have previously worked on the 2014 film ‘Gunday’, also starring Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. The two became good friends during the course of the film’s shoot and have been in constant touch ever since. Keeping their friendship in mind, we can believe that Priyanka might be charging nothing for the movie.
To be produced by Alvira Khan Agnihotri and Atul Agnihotri, in association with Bhushan Kumar of T-Series’, ‘Bharat’ goes on floors in July. The movie is slated to release next year on Eid.
