‘Chak De! India’, which hit the marquee in 2007, is still considered one of the finest films of superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s illustrious movie career. Helmed by Shimit Amin, the sports drama was one of the highest grossing movies of 2007 and walked away with scores of prestigious awards, including the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Now, after over a decade of its release, we hear that SRK and Shimit Amin are reuniting for another powerful venture. According to reports, Amin’s next is a two-hero project with Khan playing one of the male leads.
“Last year when ‘Chak De! India’ clocked a decade, Shah Rukh reconnected with Shimit. It was then that the latter discussed a concept he had in mind for Khan. The superstar liked it and asked him to work on it further. When Shah Rukh returned to Mumbai last week after wrapping up Zero’s US schedule, the two met again to discuss the progress on the script. Shah Rukh is keen on the project and is likely to produce it as well,” a source informed.
If the source is to be believed, the project is a period drama with which SRK wants to break his romantic hero image. “He wants the film to be a departure from his romantic hero image. It will also feature a younger hero as a parallel lead. Though Ayushmann Khurrana is said to be in talks, the final casting call will be taken only after SRK comes on board,” added the source.
Meanwhile, SRK is busy with ‘Zero’. His next might be Siddharth Roy Kapur’s space odyssey movie ‘Salute’. Khan is also rumoured to be reuniting with Karan Johar for a new film.
