Most of the big-ticket movies which you are going to see on the cinema screen in 2018 and 2019 will be Dharma Productions’ ventures. Their slate of films has many diverse offerings for the audience. ‘Drive’, ‘Saaho’, ‘Dhadak’, ‘Student Of The Year 2’, ‘Simmba’, ‘Brahmastra’, ‘Kesari’, ‘Kalank’ and ‘Rannbhoomi’ are some of the projects that Karan Johar will be releasing in next two years. While most of these above-mentioned films have already begun production, ‘Rannbhoomi’ is yet to mount the shooting floor. The project was announced last year with Varun Dhawan. The latest we hear that KJo and director Shashank Khaitan are keen to cast Alia Bhatt to play the female lead in the war-drama movie.
However, when director Khaitan was asked about the same, he said, “As a child, while playing with He-man toys, I dreamt of making a warrior epic. I’m still in the research phase but happy that Varun is on board. We have not spoken about ‘Rannbhoomi’ because I’ve been busy with ‘Dhadak’. Once we are clearer about the script and sure of the casting ourselves, we will be in a position to reveal more. It’s a film we have dreamt of, so we won’t hide the leading lady.”
Meanwhile, Dhawan and Bhatt are currently shooting for their fourth film together. Titled ‘Kalank’, the movie is being helmed by Abhishek Verman for Dharma Productions and also stars Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunal Khemu in key roles. The duo started their career together with Karan Johar’s ‘Student Of The Year’ in 2012 and later starred in Shashank Khaitan’s ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ (2014) and ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ (2017).
