Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tannishtha Chatterjee, two of the finest actors of Indian cinema, are teaming up once again. However, the association is going to be a tad different this time around. While they have starred together in a couple of critically acclaimed movies including ‘Lion’ (2016), ‘Dekh Indian Circus’ (2011) and ‘Monsoon Shootout’ (2017), the duo will work together again in the capacity of actor and director. Nawaz is all set to headline an untitled film which will mark the directorial debut of Tannishtha Chatterjee.
Talking about the movie and her association with Nawaz, Tannishtha says, “Nawaz and I have the most vibrant creative discussions and through so many years of conversations, we thought it is almost an organic culmination that we now tell a story that we would ourselves like to watch,”
The film is based on an incident which Tannishtha once experienced in her life. “…I experienced a very strange incident during one of my travels to a film festival and immediately sounded him out. Nawaz was equally intrigued, and we decided to bring the experience to the screen,” she adds.
The yet-to-be-titled project will be jointly produced by Eros International, Rising Star Entertainment, Pankaj Razdaz, and Ravi Walia. Casting for other important characters will begin soon, and the film mounts the shooting floor later this year.
Besides this untitled project, Nawaz will be seen in a biopic on Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, titled ‘Thackeray’. He also essays the lead role in Nandita Das’s directorial venture ‘Manto’, which is again a biographical drama based on the life of Indian-Pakistani writer Saadat Hasan Manto. His other upcoming films are ‘Ghoomketu’, ‘Phobia 2’, and ‘Genius’.
