We have earlier reported that producer Ekta Kapoor is planning a sequel to one of her career’s most successful films, ‘Ek Villain’ (2014). Toplined by Shraddha Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra, ‘Ek Villain’ was one of the biggest hits of 2014, which helped the leading actors cement their position in showbiz. Now, after 4 years of its release, Ekta is going ahead full throttle on a sequel to the runaway hit film.
“Work on ‘Ek Villain 2’ has just kicked off. The premise of the original is great for a potential franchise,” a source from Balaji Motion Pictures lets on. Sidharth Malhotra, who played the male lead in ‘Ek Villain’, is said to be retained in the sequel, while a new actress would be cast to play the female lead as Shraddha Kapoor’s character dies in the predecessor. The same has been confirmed by the source.
According to reports, Ekta has commissioned a group of writers who will be writing a follow-up to the previous film. Director Mohit Suri, who directed the first part, has also come onboard to helm the sequel. Besides ‘Ek Villain 2’, the ace producer also bankrolls four other projects which will commence one after another. Ekta has collaborated with four leading directors, including Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Imtiaz Ali, Alankrita Shrivastava and Shree Narayan Singh, to helm them. Out of four, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s film is expected to roll first.
Meanwhile, Ekta is basking in the stupendous success of her latest production, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ (2018), starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania. The film, helmed by Shashanka Ghosh, is racing to march past the coveted Rs. 100 crore club soon.
