It was an excellent Friday at the box-office as, surpassing all expectations, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania starring movie, ‘Veere Di Wedding’, went on to clock a whopping ₹ 10.70 crores at the cash counter. The figure is terrific for a women-centric film and reaffirms the fact that actresses can also draw audiences to theatres provided the venture is backed by a strong story and superlative performances by the cast.
With its opening day figures, the movie has surprised many in the trade because no one had thought it would topple several box-office records within a day of its theatrical release. Sharing the first-day collection of the film on Twitter, noted film critic and trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, wrote, “#VeereDiWedding has a WINNING START on Day 1… Makes its way into the TOP 5 OPENERS of 2018… Expected to build up a SOLID TOTAL over the weekend… Fri ₹ 10.70 cr. India biz.”
Talking about the film’s opening occupancy on 1st June, a popular trade magazine had reported, “The opening of ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is better than films like ‘Pad Man’ (2018), ‘Raid’ (2018), ‘October’ (2018) and ‘Parmanu – The Story Of Pokhran’ (2018) which had leading male stars driving the films. It is also better than ‘Raazi’ (2018) as far as morning shows go, but the film will have to be far better than its trailer if it is to match that film after the first-day business.”
With ₹ 10.70 crores in its kitty, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ has already made it to the top five opening weekend list of 2018. It currently sits on the third spot after Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani starrer ‘Baaghi 2’ (₹ 25.10 crores) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed ‘Padmaavat’ (₹ 19 crores). If the trend continues, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ can pass the century milestone very soon, maybe within 10 days of its run.
Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor and Nikhil Dwivedi, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is directed by Shashanka Ghosh. Actor Sumeet Vyas also plays an important role in the movie.
