Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s ‘Fanne Khan’ deferred yet again

Last seen in Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016), Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will next grace the silver screen with the upcoming musical ‘Fanne Khan’, co-starring Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. The film was earlier scheduled to release on Eid 2018. However, in a bid to avoid a box-office clash with Salman Khan’s much-awaited action entertainer ‘Race 3’, the makers of ‘Fanne Khan’ decided to defer their film to July 13. But as things stand today, the team is not sticking to July 13 release date either. ‘Fanne Khan’ has been postponed yet again, locking 3rd August as the new release date.

‘Fanne Khan’ is a remake of a Dutch movie, titled ‘Everybody’s Famous’ (2000), which also won a nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 73rd Academy Awards in 2001. The Hindi remake sees Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the role of a singer. Rajkummar Rao plays her love interest. The movie also reunites the former beauty queen with seasoned actor Anil Kapoor after a gap of 17 years. The duo has starred together in a couple of successful films and was last seen in actor-director Satish Kaushik’s romantic drama ‘Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai’ (2000).

When ‘Fanne Khan’ was set to release on Eid, it was clashing with Salman Khan’s biggie ‘Race 3’. When it shifted its release to 13th July, it was pitted against Shaad Ali’s ‘Soorma’, featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. And now, the Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer will lock horns with ‘Karwaan’. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and starring Irrfan Khan, Dulquer Salmaan and Mithila Palkar in principal roles, ‘Karwaan’ is also scheduled to roll into theatres on 3rd August 2018.

Produced by T-Series and ROMP, ‘Fanne Khan’ is helmed by Atul Manjrekar.
