‘Rowdy Rathore’, which hit the marquee in 2012, remains one of the biggest hits of superstar Akshay Kumar’s three-decade-long career. Made on a budget of Rs. 45 crores, the actioner had ended up clocking approximately Rs. 206 crores before wrapping up its box-office run. Reports about a possible sequel to the Prabhu Deva directorial have always been there, but now co-producer, Shabina Khan, has confirmed that ‘Rowdy Rathore 2’ is indeed happening.
Khan, who is also venturing into television production with the upcoming show ‘Zindagi Ke Crossroads’ on Sony Entertainment Television, reveals that the script for ‘Rowdy Rathore 2’, which has been written by ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ (2015) and ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ (2017) writer Mr Vijayendra Prasad, is ready and the team is all set to go ahead. “It is ready. The writing took some time from Mr Vijayendra Prasad. Now we are ready.”
Just like ‘Rowdy Rathore’, its sequel will also be co-produced by ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. However, the director is yet to give his final nod to the project. Once he greenlights it, the film will begin rolling. “Mr Bhansali and I co-produced. I am just waiting for him to approve the script and then we will move on.”
‘Rowdy Rathore’ starred Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. Casting for the second instalment is yet to begin, but we wonder if the makers will retain the original cast or they rope in a new set of actors. Also, Prabhu Deva is currently busy with Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg 3’. So, it will be interesting to see who calls the shots for the second part of ‘Rowdy Rathore’.
