Award-winning actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has his plate full with several movies, has signed one more project. According to latest media reports, casting director-turned-filmmaker Honey Trehan has roped in Nawaz to play the lead character in his first film. Trehan, who shares a great bond with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, has previously assisted the ‘Haider’ (2014) director on movies such as ‘Omkara’ (2006), ‘Kaminey’ (2009) and ‘7 Khoon Maaf’ (2011).
Talking about Trehan’s directorial debut, a well-placed source reveals that his film is a crime-thriller set in the hinterlands of India. Nawaz has given his consent to star in the movie but is yet to sign it on the dotted line. “Honey has been working on the script for a while now. It is a crime-thriller and is set in the interiors of India. Nawaz has really liked the script and has given his nod to the film but is yet to sign on the dotted line. Meanwhile, Honey has begun work on the preproduction and is on the lookout for his leading lady. They are expected to start work early next year and Nawaz will begin his prep closer to the shooting date.”
For the uninitiated, Honey was earlier set to turn director with an untitled film starring Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan in lead roles. Based on Hussain Zaidi’s book, ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai,’ the gangster-drama movie was to be produced by Vishal Bhardwaj under his production house. However, later it turned out that Vishal himself decided to call the shots. The project might go on floors as soon as Irrfan Khan recuperates from his poor health.
Meanwhile, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is busy shooting for his next film ‘Thackeray’. His other upcoming projects include ‘Genius’, ‘Manto’ and ‘Phobia 2’.
