Renowned producers Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur have teamed up for National award-winning filmmaker Vinod Kapri’s next film, titled ‘Pihu’. The duo has produced a series of successful films in the past when they were at the helm of UTV. Some of their critically and commercially successful films include ‘Dev D’ (2009), ‘Rang De Basanti’ (2006) and ‘A Wednesday’ (2008). ‘Pihu’ marks the first collaboration between Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films and Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP.
“It’s always thrilling to come across directors who want to tell stories that disrupt the status quo using bold new narrative styles. It is a towering directorial achievement by Vinod and we look forward to bringing it to audiences soon,” said Siddharth Roy Kapur while about the movie. “Pihu is a unique film and thrillingly real. Imagine 90 minutes of a spellbinding experience. It tugs at your heart at all times,” added Ronnie.
The Vinod Kapri directorial stars a two-year-old protagonist. It revolves around a two-year-old child who is left alone in an apartment and what happens thereafter. The film is inspired from a real-life incident and has only one character throughout.
Kapri, who has previously helmed ‘Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho’ (2016), says that he is glad that his film is in right hands now. “In the beginning, my dear friend Late Kirshan Kumar trusted my dream and ‘Pihu’ was born. Later, the way Sid and Ronnie adopted ‘Pihu’, is no lesser than a fairy tale for me. I’m glad that it is now safe and in the hands of those who understand cinema in its true sense.”
‘Pihu’ has travelled to many prestigious film festivals across the world like Germany, Vancouver, Palm Springs, Iran, and Morocco. It was also the opening feature film at the IFFI 2017. ‘Pihu’ arrives in cinemas on 3rd August 201.
