Indian cinema’s first female superstar Sridevi may not have been with us anymore, but her formidable cinematic legacy will keep her alive in our memories for years to come. Not just Indian cinema, Sridevi was a force to reckon with throughout the world with her popularity spread across the length and breadth of the globe. Honouring her immense talent and exceptional body of work, the Cannes Film Festival 2018 has decided to give a heartfelt tribute to the iconic Indian actress.
The ‘Mom’ (2017) actress, who bid adieu to the world on 24th February 2018 in a Dubai hotel, will be honoured as a part of a special event: Titan Reginald F. Lewis Film Honours, at Le Majestic Beach on 16th May. Her husband Boney Kapoor is gearing up to grace the event along with his daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. Confirming the same, Boney told a leading daily, “I’m happy that people all over the world are recognising her work and contribution to cinema. Even though the overwhelming emptiness of losing her remains, it’s somewhat comforting to know that she lives on through her work.”
Sridevi was previously remembered at the prestigious 90th Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles during the “In Memoriam” montage where Eddie Vedder gave her a musical tribute. The Oscar ceremony was held on 5th March 2018.
