Exceeding all expectations, Meghna Gulzar’s latest offering ‘Raazi’ has put up a great show at the box-office on its opening day. Starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in principal roles, the espionage drama registered decent occupancy on 11th June and racked up a handsome amount in spite of getting released in a very limited count of just 1500 screens.
Featuring Alia Bhatt in the role of an Indian spy who marries a Pakistani army official to gather information about Pakistan’s strategy before the imminent 1971 war, ‘Raazi’ tug the right chord with the audience. The film garnered a positive response from all prominent film critics and the excellent word of mouth from the word go turned out to be an icing on the cake for the movie. Resultantly, the film earned an impressive Rs. 7.53 crores at the cash counter on day-one.
Before the release of the film, it was expected to pull in somewhere in the range of Rs. 5 crores to Rs. 5.50 crores. However, by clocking Rs. 7.53 crores on its opening day, the movie has surprised one and all. Its immediate acceptance once again proves the fact that if the content is strong, a film will gain traction among the audience no matter what.
Sharing the first-day collection with the film enthusiasts, noted film critic and trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, wrote on his Twitter handle, “Power of SOLID CONTENT… #Raazi starts Day 1 with a BIG BANG… The EXCEPTIONAL word of mouth should result in a FANTASTIC opening weekend… Fri ₹ 7.53 cr. India biz.”
With a strong word of mouth, ‘Raazi’ is expected to continue its winning streak over the weekend. Apart from the Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor starrer ‘102 Not Out’, there is no competition for it in the fray. Keeping its first day numbers in mind, it is expected that ‘Raazi’ will close out its first weekend with an income around Rs. 25 crores.
‘Raazi’ is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions in association with Junglee Pictures.
