Newcomer Saiyami Kher, who joined the Hindi film industry with renowned filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Mirzya’ (2016), is all set to make her debut in Marathi cinema with an upcoming film called ‘Mauli’. Popular Hindi and Marathi film actor Riteish Deshmukh will play the male lead in the movie. Along with starring in it, Deshmukh will also bankroll it under his banner Mumbai Film Company.
Elated Saiyami says that she is extremely happy to have got an opportunity to work in a film in her mother tongue. “That too opposite Riteish in his home production! Riteish very successfully introduced a new genre of action/drama to Marathi cinema with ‘Lai Bhari’ (2014). ‘Mauli’ is a film which will always be very close to my heart because it takes me back to my Maharashtrian roots. I will really miss my grandmother on this journey because she would have been very proud to see my Marathi debut. I’m really excited and seek everyone’s good wishes and blessings,” Saiyami said in a statement.
Riteish said that his team was looking for a fresh face for ‘Mauli’ and their search ended on Saiyami. “We found that in Saiyami. She is young, vivacious and fits the character of a Firebrand Marathi mulgi’ to the T. We are extremely excited to collaborate with her and looking forward to working with her,” he said.
For the uninitiated, Saiyami Kher is the granddaughter of veteran actress Usha Kiran. She is the niece of popular actress Tanvi Azmi. Interestingly, after working in Hindi films for many years, Tanvi made her Marathi debut with Riteish playing his mother in ‘Lai Bhari’.
‘Mauli’ has already begun its production. Saiyami will join the team soon. The film will hit the silver screen early in 2019.
