Superstar Ranbir Kapoor, who is currently busy promoting his upcoming biggie ‘Sanju’, is all set to venture into a territory he has never been a part of. Yes, the supremely talented actor has given his nod to play a dacoit in Yash Raj Films’ upcoming action-adventure movie, titled ‘Shamshera’.
Earlier today, the studio unveiled a 45-second long teaser of their new venture, featuring bruised Kapoor in an intense look. His character is shown fighting in a battlefield, holding on to an axe and a quiver filled with arrows. The tagline of the movie goes like: “Karam Se Dacait, Dharam Se Azaad”. Filmmaker Karan Malhotra, who has to his credit movies such as ‘Agneepath’ (2012) and ‘Brothers’ (2015), will direct his first film for one of the countries’ premier banner, Yash Raj Films. Reportedly, he has signed a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films and ‘Shamshera’ will be the first film of the deal.
In a press statement, Ranbir Kapoor said, “Shamshera is exactly the film I was looking for. While growing up watching Hindi commercial cinema, I had an image of what a film hero should be doing. Shamshera allows me to do everything that I had imagined and it’s a very exciting project for me. Karan is going to take me completely out of my comfort zone and I’m looking forward to this challenge.”
While the makers are yet to announce the female lead, ‘Shamshera’ is expected to start rolling by the end of 2018. Along with promoting his upcoming film ‘Sanju’, Kapoor is also preparing for his next film ‘Brahmastra’. The fantasy drama, which will be directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar, also features Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan in key characters.
After ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ (2008) and ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year’ (2009), ‘Shamshera’ marks Ranbir Kapoor’s third collaboration with Yash Raj Films.
