You cannot really predict when your sweet equations with someone turn sour in the dazzling world of Bollywood. Filmmaker Karan Johar and Sidharth Malhotra were said to be very close to each other with the former bankrolling a number of projects featuring the young actor. Johar even launched Malhotra in Bollywood with his candy floss flick ‘Student Of The Year’ in 2012. However, if latest reports are to be believed, Karan surprised one and all by refusing to greenlight a Kargil war film starring Malhotra in the lead role.
A source close to the development reveals to a National daily that Karan’s refusal has really shocked Sidharth Malhotra. “He had reached out to a whole lot of people, but the first of them was Karan Johar, his mentor. Sidharth believed that Karan would welcome the idea. But then he was shocked when Karan decided not to take up the film.”
Reportedly, the concept of the film did not really excite the filmmaker. Also, Malhotra’s credibility as an actor has taken a beating in the past few years as some of his releases did not put up a great show at the cash counter, incurring losses to the investors, and hence Karan is being extremely careful. On the other hand, some media outlets report that Johar decided against the project as he was not keen on making another film based on Indo-Pak relations as his upcoming production ‘Raazi’, starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in principal roles, is also based on the same milieu.
Meanwhile, the film Sidharth had approached Karan Johar for will now be produced by Ekta Kapoor under her production banner, Balaji Motion Pictures.
