After his comeback film ‘Paltan’, JP Dutta to helm a period film

Buzz has it that veteran filmmaker JP Dutta, who is making his comeback to films after a huge gap of 12 years with the forthcoming war-drama movie ‘Paltan’, has already started work on his next directorial venture. The celebrated director is currently busy looking after the post-production of ‘Paltan’. However, he has simultaneously begun scripting a period film based on a brave Punjabi ruler from the 17th century. When Dutta was asked about his next project after ‘Paltan’, he did not reveal much except saying that the ruler was “one of the most remarkable figures in the history of Punjab, a fiercely brave military commander.”

The filmmaker also reveals that it was his daughter, Nidhi Dutta, who has been persistently asking him to write the story which he had thought of some six years ago. “It will be a period action-drama. My daughter Nidhi has been pushing me to pursue it. She’s helping me with the prep on the project.”

Nidhi, who is also helping her father on his comeback project ‘Paltan’, reveals that her father’s next will be the biggest and most ambitious project coming from the house of JP Dutta. The work on the pre-production of the untitled project has already begun, she says. “We have started work already because the film demands a large canvas. While he usually mounts films on a big scale, this time it will be on a grander one and will need that much more work and effort. We want to roll early February next year. It’ll be a [signature] JP Dutta action film about one of the greatest kings that India has ever known,” says Nidhi.

‘Paltan’ is scheduled to release on 7th September, 2018.
