The makers of the forthcoming biopic ‘Soorma’ have decided to shift their film to 13th July 2018. The biopic was earlier scheduled to hit the silver screen on 29th June 2018, and was pitted against Rajkumar Hirani’s Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Sanju’ at the box office. However, a lot changed after the makers of ‘Sanju’ launched the teaser of their hotly anticipated film on 24th April. Within hours of going online, the teaser generated a humongous response from all corners. It trended on all social media platforms for more than 24 hours, making it quite clear that the audience is not going to miss the Sanjay Dutt biopic in any case. In this scenario, if the makers of ‘Soorma’ had released their film alongside ‘Sanju’, the former could have been crushed severely at the ticket window. But before that could happen, the makers took the right decision by postponing their movie to 13th July.
Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu in pivotal roles, ‘Soorma’ is inspired from some real-life incidents of legendary Hockey player and the ex-Captain of the Indian National Hockey Team Sandeep Singh. Dosanjh, who was last seen in ‘Welcome to New York’ (2018) plays Sandeep Singh onscreen, while ‘Pink’ (2016) actress Taapsee will be seen in the role of his wife. The film marks the first association between both the actors.
Produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions, Chitrangda Singh, and Deepak Singh, ‘Soorma’ is written and directed by well-known filmmaker, Shaad Ali. 13th July, 2018 is the new release date of the sports biopic.
