Karan Johar spends like a sailor for recreating Old Delhi set for ‘Kalank’

When it comes to giving an authentic look and feel to his movies, Karan Johar does not think twice and does everything possible to achieve that perfect look. And if reports are to be believed, the ace filmmaker has done the same again for his forthcoming production venture, Kalank. Reportedly, a colossal set has been erected in Mumbai Film City replicating Old Delhi and, if sources are to be believed, Karan Johar has spent a humongous Rs. 15 crores on it.

“A huge set has been erected in Film City, which is under heavy security to ensure that pictures of the interiors are not leaked. They are also taking extra measures to keep the look of the cast under wraps,” reveals a well-placed source.

Revealing some more information, the source adds, “Karan got Amrita Mahal Nakai to work on the set’s design and structure. They have created an Old Delhi mohalla with a Mahal, where filming is currently on. ‘Kalank’ is set against the backdrop of the Partition. Since it’s based in the 1940s, the set has been designed keeping that particular period in mind.”

‘Kalank’, starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha in principal roles, is being jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. Directed by Abhishek Varman, the film is scheduled to release on 19th April 2019.
