National Award winner Riddhi Sen joins Kajol in Pradeep Sarkar’s ‘Eela’


    Bengali actor Riddhi Sen is on a roll! The 19-year-old actor, who recently walked home with a National Film Award of Best Actor for the movie, ‘Nagarkirtan’ (2017), has been confirmed to play a principal part in well-known filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar’s forthcoming Hindi directorial venture, ‘Eela’. The film, which explores a mother-son relationship, stars seasoned Bollywood actress Kajol in the lead role and Sen has been roped in to play her son in the flick. The talented actress, who was last seen in Dhanush’s ‘VIP 2’ (2017), plays an aspiring singer and single mother in the film on mother-son relationship.

    Spilling some beans on his role in the movie, Riddhi reveals to a leading daily, “It is a beautiful story of an aspiring singer who is also a single mother. The mother and son share a wonderful chemistry in the film.”

    ‘Eela’ has been written by Anand Gandhi. Basically, the film is an adaptation of his well-received Gujarati play ‘Beta Kaagdo’. “I had written Beta Kaagdo 15 years ago and it is inspired, in part, by my mother’s life and her eccentricities. My mother has been my muse for the story,” Gandhi had said in an earlier interview.

    As soon as the 65th National Film Awards were announced recently, Kajol had taken to Twitter to wish her onscreen son. “My virtual son from ‘Eela’ wins a National Award for his Bengali film ‘Nagarkirtan’. Awesomesauce Riddhi Sen!”

    ‘Eela’ is being produced by Ajay Devgn. The film might hit screens early next year.
