The runaway success of his last release ‘Padmaavat’ (2018) has done wonders for Shahid Kapoor as a number of top directors from Bollywood have approached the actor with their projects after the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial turned out to be a blockbuster at the ticket window. Kapoor is currently shooting for Shree Narayan Singh’s ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ with Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam. And now we have come to learn that the young star is teaming up with talented filmmaker Raja Krishna Menon for an untitled film. Menon is known for films such as ‘Airlift’ (2016) and ‘Chef’ (2017).
“Shahid and Raja have been planning to work together for a while now. They had met after the release of ‘Udta Punjab’ back in June 2016 and had kept in touch, looking for a project to collaborate on. Both agreed on a script that Raja had been working on,” reveals a source close to the development.
Director Raja Krishna Menon has himself confirmed the news. “Yes, Shahid and I are very keen to do our next film together. We have been working on an idea that we are both excited about and it will be a film based on a true story,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shahid was also expected to join hands with ace director Imtiaz Ali for an experimental film. However, that project has been put on the backburner as its financers were not ready to bankroll such an experimental venture with the actor. Kapoor is also in talks with acclaimed filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for a film on the sport of ‘Kabaddi’. The project is yet to be officially announced.
