From Finance to Films – Celebs who can do the maths

When we think of Bollywood stars and their spouses, we have an image of entitles people who have been handed everything in their lives right from a luxurious house to live in to top notch education to movie debuts. We agree that nepotism is prevalent in Bollywood and almost every actor or actress who makes a debut is some close or distant relative to a Bollywood personality. Having said that, there are quite a few people in Bollywood who have had to struggle to make it big in the tinsel town. These people had odd jobs and did not have a ‘father figure’ in the industry to do charity for them by getting them a role in a movie. There are also a few people who have made it big but prefer to not marry into the movie fraternity but to someone from the normal outside world. We have listed for you all those Bollywood personalities who were bankers or crunched numbers in their ‘previous lives’. This list also includes a select few Bollywood personalities who married outside the Bollywood circles and their spouses were/are bankers or worked with/on numbers and data.

    6Soha Ali Khan

Soha Ali Khan is a known face in the Indian film industry. She also happens to be the only graduate amongst the Pataudis. She is the youngest daughter of the cricketer, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and the enchanting actress, Sharmila Tagore. Her brother, Saif Ali Khan is one of the stars in Bollywood. She also has an elder sister, Saba Ali Khan who is a jewellery designer. Soha Ali Khan made her Bollywood debut with the movie, Dil Maange More opposite Shahid Kapoor. She has acted sporadically in movies and a few critical successes have been in the form of Rang de Basanti, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Midnight’s Children and Go Goa Gone.

Soha Ali Khan completed her secondary education in Delhi, away from the media attention, from the British School, New Delhi. She then graduated in modern history from Balliol College, Oxford. Post her graduation, she started out with Citi group’s Ford Foundation which was an NGO working towards women empowerment. She then went to England for a Master’s degree in politics and applied to Citi’s London office without a prior experience in finance and banking. She got the job in England but was told that she would be trained in Mumbai for a year before relocating her to UK. So, she relocated to Mumabi and started working with Citi’s private bank and was allocated to high net worth assets division.

The job in Mumbai had her interacting with people of high net worth and putting them in touch with the right person internally in Citi. Her reporting offices were both London and Singapore and therefore, she had to start work really early and carry it on till late. But after spending a year and a few months in Mumbai, she decided to quit her job as she had in her hand a few scripts which looked promising and it is really difficult to ignore the call of the glamourous life of a Bollywood actor.
