Arjun Kapoor asks makers to sign director Amit Sharma for ‘Arjun Reddy’ remake

According to latest media reports, actor Arjun Kapoor is keen to have filmmaker Amit Sharma onboard to helm his forthcoming film which is a Hindi remake of successful Telugu film ‘Arjun Reddy’ (2017). Sharma has directed the actor in the 2015 film ‘Tevar’, which was bankrolled by Kapoor’s father, Boney Kapoor, and Uncle, Sanjay Kapoor.

A trade source reveals, “Amit has just completed another film called ‘Badhaai Ho’ with Ayushmann Khurrana and Dangal girl Sanya Malhotra. Arjun, who shares a fabulous equation with Amit, has asked the makers to sign him on. Ashwin and Murad Khetani, who are bankrolling the remake, want the flavour of the original retained. They may give in for Amit, but will make sure that the art of the first film isn’t lost in translation.”

‘Arjun Reddy’ revolves around a male surgeon who is left heartbroken when his girlfriend marries someone else. He drinks and drugs himself senseless afterwards. The original film starred young South Indian actor Vijay Deverakonda, who delivered an outstanding performance as the depressed and madly-in-love Reddy and received widespread acclaim.

Though the title of its Hindi remake has yet not been finalized, some insiders reveal that the film might be called ‘Arjun Kapoor’ as the male protagonist will now be Punjabi instead of a Telugu. Reportedly, Arjun Kapoor will co-produce the film along with producer Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Besides ‘Arjun Reddy’ remake, Kapoor will also be seen in films such as ‘Namastey England’, ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’ and ‘Panipat’.
