Shah Rukh acquires the Hindi remake rights of Kamal Haasan’s ‘Hey Ram’

According to reports, Shah Rukh Khan is keen to remake Southern superstar Kamal Haasan’s critically acclaimed movie ‘Hey Ram’ (2000), and hence has acquired its remake rights. Written, directed and produced by Haasan, the film featured Khan in a brief role.

Kamal Haasan confirmed the news to a tabloid, saying, “Shah Rukh only got a wristwatch for acting in my film at the time because, by the end of it, I had nothing left in hand. Now, he is the brand ambassador for a watch brand. I am glad that he got the Hindi rights of ‘Hey Ram’ from Bharat Bhai (co-producer Bharat Shah). He should have some memory of the film as he gave his friendship and service for it.”

Apart from writing, directing and co-producing the historical fiction-political thriller film, Kamal Haasan played the male lead in it. The film garnered highly positive reviews upon its release in 2000 and went on to win 3 National Film Awards.

Besides Haasan and Shah Rukh Khan, the film also featured Rani Mukerji, Hema Malini, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri and Atul Kulkarni in special appearances.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is currently busy with the shooting of his upcoming film ‘Zero’. Directed by Aanand L Rai and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment in association with Colour Yellow Productions, the film also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in lead roles. SRK will be seen in a dual role in the film where one of his characters will be dwarf.

‘Zero’ is scheduled to release on 21st December 2018.
