Fans of superstars Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi were on cloud nine when, a couple of months back, it came to light that both actors will reunite after a huge gap of 25 years, in one of Karan Johar’s forthcoming ventures. But destiny had some other plans in store as Sridevi left us all for her heavenly abode on 24th February and Karan decided to shelve the project. However, the filmmaker changed his mind soon and approached seasoned actress Madhuri Dixit for the role which Sridevi had given her nod to portray. According to reports, once Dixit came on-board, Sanjay Dutt wasn’t too keen to work with the actress due to their past and hence put his papers down.
Now with Sanjay Dutt quitting the big-ticket film, Karan and his team are on their toes to find a suitable replacement as soon as possible. The latest we hear that the makers are in talks with evergreen actors Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor and whoever of them gives his nod first will bag the role. ”Jackie, who has been paired opposite Madhuri in several films, is being considered as the next option in case Anil doesn’t manage to adjust his dates. Anil has been excited by a digital project. He may have to let that go if he signs this movie. So, he’s in two minds,” reveals a source.
Talking about the rest of the star cast of the movie, it has been learned that Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt along with Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha will headline the project. As per reports, Varun and Aditya play brothers who share a tense relationship, and Madhuri will be seen playing Alia Bhatt’s mother. Director Abhishek Varman, who last directed ‘2 States’ (2014), will helm the project.
Earlier, there were some reports saying that Dharma Productions’ next with Abhishek Varman, featuring Madhuri Dixit, is called ‘Shiddat’. However, Karan cleared the air on Twitter saying that the movie starring Madhuri Dixit, which is Abhishek Varman’s next, is not titled ‘Shiddat’.
An official announcement of the film is awaited.
