Shekhar Kapur appointed to head jury panel for 65th National Film Awards


    According to news reported by the leading news agency PTI, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has finalized the list of members who will be part of the upcoming 65th National Film Awards. Celebrated filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who has to his credit path-breaking films such as ‘Masoom’ (1983), ‘Mr. India’ (1987) and ‘Bandit Queen’ (1994), has been appointed chairman of the central panel of the 65th National Film Awards. The central panel comprises a chairperson and 10 other members, including five regional chairpersons who head the respective regional panels.

    Well-known film writer Imtiaz Hussain has been entrusted with the responsibility of spearheading South I panel. Hussain is known for his excellent work in a series of award-winning films, including ‘Parinda’ (1989), ‘Ghulam-E-Mustafa’ (1997) ‘Vaastav: The Reality’ (1999) and ‘Astitva’ (2000). Distinguished lyricist Mehboob, who has penned the lyrics for blockbuster films such as ‘Rangeela’ (1995), ‘Bombay’ (1995), ‘Iruvar’ (1997), ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ (1999), ‘Yuva’ (2004) and many more, will be the regional chairperson of South II panel.

    Popular Tamil actor Gautami Tadimalla has been appointed the regional chairman of the North panel, while director Rahul Rawail, who has helmed superhit films such as ‘Love Story’ (1981), ‘Betaab’ (1983) and ‘Arjun’ (1985), has been chosen as the regional chairperson of the Western panel, they said. Director P. Sheshadri, a known name in Kannada cinema, is the regional chairperson of Eastern panel.

    Other members of the panel include filmmaker Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury; filmmaker Ranjit Das; playwright Tripurari Sharma; dialogue and screenwriter Rumi Jaffery; and film writer, director, and producer Rajesh Mapuskar.
