Helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta, ‘Raid’ has been doing a phenomenal business at the cash counter ever since hitting the screen on 16thMarch. Starring Ajay Devgn, Saurabh Shukla and Ileana D’Cruz in principal roles, the movie received a great response from critics and excellent word of mouth from the audience turned out to be an icing on the cake for it, resulting in steady collections over the weekend and weekdays. Currently, ‘Raid’ is in its second week and despite facing a huge competition from Rani Mukerji’s comeback film ‘Hichki’, it is continuously drawing the audience to theatres.
In 12 days of its box-office run, ‘Raid’ has pulled in Rs. 84.36 crore at the ticket window and with this much of money in its pocket, the movie has become the third highest grossing film of 2018, after surpassing the lifetime business of Akshay Kumar‘s social-drama ‘Pad Man’, which had netted Rs. 82.10 crore at the cash counter.
‘Raid’ is now lagging behind from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum-opus ‘Padmaavat’ and Luv Ranjan’s bromance-drama ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ in terms of box-office collections. While the Ajay Devgn starrer cannot touch the lifetime business of ‘Padmaavat’ even in its wildest dream, crossing the business of ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ seems to be a distant dream. The film will mint around Rs. 88 crores by the end of its second week. Collections are bound to dip heavily over the third weekend as Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani starrer Baaghi 2 is arriving in cinemas this Friday with full force. ‘Hichki’, which has picked up brilliantly after the great word of mouth set in, will also affect its earnings.
So, now it remains to be seen whether or not ‘Raid’ will become Ajay Devgn’s next Rs. 100 crore grosser at the box-office.
